I’m working once more.

I was just informed I got a job with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions as a Graduate Assistant. I’ll be answering phones, e-mails, and doing data entry for them and talking to people who are interested in becoming a part of Stony Brook University. I’ll once again have a source of income. This is progress.

Stony Brook loves to spend our money!

While walking around campus Thursday I noticed a particularly odd new addition to the Stony Brook campus. There’s now a wing of the library dedicated to being a newsroom of sorts, presumably for the journalism classes or TV station – that’s all well and good. However, on the outside of the wing, on the side facing towards the Administration building, there is a big scrolling news ticker.

Yes, a news ticker.

This wouldn’t bother me so much, if I didn’t visualize the meetings that were held to discuss this matter.

“We have some cash and a need to improve the campus. I have a great idea for something we can do!”
“What do you propose?”
“Well, you know, I think this campus is just missing a big fucking news ticker that nobody’s ever going to look at for any reason.”
“Really? That’s a fucking brilliant idea, that’s exactly what this campus is missing! A big superfluous news ticker!”
“Well done, sir!”

Presumably this discussion was followed by a party featuring rich old white men in top hats smoking $100 bills paid for by the students of the University. Look, I like Stony Brook. But really, a news ticker? There aren’t other things we could add that would actually be somewhat useful? Am I too worked up over this? Probably, but I think it’s a bit ridiculous. “Hey, we’re Stony Brook, we’re so cutting edge – our library has a news ticker! Fuck you, Hofstra!” Give me a break.

I’m back.

It’s been an eventful last week or so, to say the least. I’m not going to say much about it other than that I’m now moved in to my new apartment, grad school is underway and things are moving ahead.

Sorry for being boring. Expect something more entertaining soon. As for the EPL team, it’s between Liverpool and Man City I believe. I may make a post weighing the pros and cons of each soon…
