A truth too often forgotten.

Here’s something I’ve come to appreciate more and more as time goes on, although I admittedly lose focus and forget this occasionally (as I’m sure everyone does): No matter how bad things seem, no matter how much you trash yourself or do whatever it is that gets you depressed, as long as you have someone – be it a best friend, a significant other, a family member – to listen to you, to be there when you’re down and do whatever it takes to talk some sense back into you, things really aren’t as bad as they could be. At the very least there’s somebody out there that cares enough about your well-being to take time out for you. It’s important to try to remember this during your down moments.
My uncle told me when I visited him in Greece last summer that one of the most important things you can do in life is take care of your friends. There was some degree of sadness in his voice when he was telling me this, so I had a feeling he didn’t want me to repeat some mistake he had made. I always knew to do this, of course, but for some reason the way he went out of his way to say it has stuck with me.
I don’t know what brought on this sudden rush of sentimentality – I promise I’ll be back to normal with my next post when I’ll probably drop thirty f-bombs and call the Mets a bunch of pansies repeatedly. For now, though, I hope everyone out there takes it easy.
Random Unrelated Addendum – I find it mildly amusing that the program guide on my satellite receiver categorizes Aqua Teen Hunger Force as “Family/Children” in its description. I’m almost tempted to buy porn on it to see if it categorizes Jenna Jameson movies as romantic comedies.
